West Indies batsman Brian Lara believes that Chennai Super Kings’ performance in this IPL season has deteriorated due to preference over youngsters and now they should give opportunities to young cricketers in the rest of the matches. One of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament is at the bottom of the Chennai score table. While other teams are giving opportunities to the youth, Chennai did not make much changes in the core team due to which it is often called ‘army of old’.
Lara said in ‘Select Dugout’ of Star Sports, “Chennai team has a lot of aging players. Young players do not appear. Foreign players have also been playing for a long time.

He said, “This team preferred the experience to the youth but that was the reason for the poor performance.” Lara said, ‘This session was very bad for him. Every time the team landed on the field, we used to pray that this match would turn the dice. Match by match, we have been hoping that Dhoni will now lead the team to victory, but the expectations remain.
Lara, 51, said, “Now the situation is such that their focus should be on making the team for the next year.” Youth should get opportunities in the rest of the matches. Chennai, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has won only 4 out of 12 matches so far this season.
