In the second match of the ODI series against Australia on Sunday, Kohli has surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs as captain in ODI cricket. Kohli surpassed Azhar (5243) in his 91st match as captain.
Kohli had earlier scored 5168 runs in 86 innings of 90 matches. He was 75 runs behind Azhar. Kohli’s performance as captain has been outstanding. He has scored 21 centuries in ODIs as of the time of writing the report. Kohli played an innings of 89 runs in this match. He hit seven fours and two sixes in his 87-ball innings.
The record of scoring the most runs as captain in one day cricket is in Australia’s Ricky Ponting. Ponting has scored 8497 runs in 220 innings of 230 matches. His batting average is 42.91. Mahendra Singh Dhoni comes in second place, who has scored 6641 runs in 200 matches. Dhoni has averaged 53.56.
Australia once again made a strong performance in front of Indian bowling in Sydney on Sunday.
