Pakistan’s head coach and outgoing chief selector, Misbah-ul-Haq, defended veteran players Asad Shafik, Mohammad Aamir and Shoaib Malik from not being selected for the New Zealand tour, saying he wanted to give young players a chance.
In a release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Misbah said that Assad was ignored for his form while Malik and Aamir as the selectors wanted to give a chance to promising and emerging players.
Misbah said, “Three key players have been removed from the England touring team. Assad is not in form. ‘ He said that ‘New Zealand matches are important for us because we want to improve our T20 international ranking and also score important points in the ICC World Test Championship. Keeping this in view of recent performance, we have selected the best available players.
