Mumbai: Bollywood law actor Asif Basra was found dead in a private rented apartment in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. The 53-year-old actor was found hanging in a private complex. The “Kai Po Che” actor was born in 1967 in the small central Indian city of Amravati. She first stepped on stage as a teenager during school theater productions, and from there her passion for acting began.
In 1989, Asif moved to Mumbai and continued to act in college productions, regularly winning awards for the roles he played. He graduated as a B.Sc in Physics, completed a computer course and got himself employed. But the theater continued to attract him and every month he used to spend all his salary to watch plays.
In 1991, while Asif went to see the production of Salim Gowhouse’s Athol Fugard’s play Bombsman and Lina, after a week-long night. Ghouse, well known on the English stage, met him and asked him to meet – a meeting that went on to mark his entry into the Mumbai theater scene.
It was soon after that that Gowhouse was producing Shakespeare’s Hamlet when one of his actors stepped down, and he asked Asif to step into the role of Horacio.
After making his debut in theaters, Asif stepped onto the Bollywood silver screen with films like “Kai Po Che” in which he played the role of Ali’s father. The versatile actor has acted in 36 films in Hindi, English, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati and Himachali.
In 2002, the actor got a big break to appear in the crime-thriller “QuickSand” alongside Hollywood veterans Michael Caine and Michael Keaton. Later the film “One Night with the King” had a small cameo. In another big break, he played the role of Puru in the American comedy film “Outsource” alongside Josh Hamilton.

Asif co-stars with Hrithik Roshan in “Krrish 3”. Played father of Emraan Hashmi in Alok Sen’s hit film “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai”. He played the role of “Raza Arif” in Kaalakandi with Saif Ali Khan in the lead role.
The late actor starred in the first “Crowdsourced” film in “Tashkent File” in Bollywood, with Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty as editor of the news channel.
Leaving no stone unturned in his acting career, Basra starred as Jai Malik in the web series, “Patal Lok”, which was released on Amazon Prime Video, and Asgar Nabi as “hostages” In, both web series were released earlier this year.
