ZIM vs AFG 1st Test: Zimbabwe defeated Afghanistan in two days, it happened after 132 years


  • Afghanistan’s first innings was all out for 131 on the first day.
  • Zimbabwe scored 250 runs in the first innings and gained 119 runs lead
  • Afghanistan’s second innings bowled out for 135 runs
  • That gave Zimbabwe a target of only 17 runs to win.

Zimbabwe defeated Afghanistan by 10 wickets on Wednesday, the second day of the first Test at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Afghanistan’s first innings was all out for 131 on the first day and Zimbabwe scored 250 runs in the first innings to take a 119-run lead. Afghanistan’s second innings was bowled out for 135 and Zimbabwe had a target of only 17 runs to win, which Zimbabwe achieved without losing wickets in 3.2 overs.

The third match of the recently played series between India and England also ended in two days where Team India defeated England by 10 wickets. This is the second time in a week that a Test has ended in two days. The Test match ended in two days for the 23rd time in the overall test. Prior to this, five consecutive Tests between 1888 and 1889 were finished in two days.

In the second innings for Zimbabwe, Kevin Kasuja remained unbeaten on 11 balls with the help of two fours in 12 balls and Prince Masvoure scored five runs with the help of a four off eight balls. Earlier, Zimbabwe started the day on 133 for five on the second day. Captain Sean Williams from Zimbabwe scored 105 runs off 174 balls with the help of 10 fours and brought the team to a comfortable position. However, Amir Hamza, bowling brilliantly, took six wickets for 75 runs and prevented Zimbabwe from scoring big.

In addition to Williams in the first innings of Zimbabwe, Regis Chakabwa scored 44 and Alexander Raja scored 43 runs. For Afghanistan, Zaheer Khan took two wickets in the first innings, Ahmedzai took one and Ibrahim Jadaran took one wicket. After Zimbabwe were all out in the first innings, the batting of Afghanistan failed completely and their entire team was piled on for 135 runs.

In the second innings, opener Ibrahim Jadaran scored the highest score of 76 runs from 145 balls with the help of 10 fours. Apart from him, Amir Hamza remained unbeaten on 21 runs. In the second innings for Zimbabwe, Victor Neocci took three wickets, Donald Tiripano three wickets, Blessing Mujarabani two wickets, Williams one and Ryan Burley took one wicket. The second and last match of the series between the two teams will be played at the same ground from 10 March.
